In tribute and solidarity with the first Black Owned Resort in Southern California Bruce’s Beach
Bruce's Beach was a small beach resort founded in 1912, in the city of Manhattan Beach CA that was owned and operated by and for African Americans. Inkwells like these existed on coastlines around the country. It provided the Black community with opportunities unavailable at other beaches because of segregation.
As the population increased and the property values soared, the black community suffered from increased racial tensions pushing blacks off the shore forcing the Beach Clubs to close down and land was taken through eminent domain
